The MAS Disaster Relief Fund was established for the purpose of assisting qualified county employees who have suffered as a result of a natural or civil disaster.

In anticipation of a federal and/or state disaster declaration for flooding and tornado damages in February 2019, MAS is now accepting applications for employees affected by the disasters.  Applications will be accepted from all counties included in the state and/or federal declaration when announced.

The MAS Disaster Relief Fund was established for the purpose of assisting qualified county employees who have suffered as a result of a natural disaster.

The MAS Disaster Relief Fund is now accepting applications from the following counties affected under the disaster declaration covering December 27-28, 2018: Clarke County, Covington County, Forrest County, Greene County, Jasper County, Jones County, Marion County, Newton County, Perry County and Wayne County.

The Mississippi First Responders Health and Safety Act comes from a nationwide advocacy effort by law enforcement, professional firefighters, and volunteer firefighter communities. Mississippi is only one of three states that does not have a local benefits policy for occupational hazards as it relates to first responders.

The MAS Office has continued to work close with MDOT regarding the next steps for the ERBR Funds. The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) anticipates the bond proceeds will be deposited into the ERBR Fund by the first part of February. MDOT will send each awarded agency a “notice of award” amount and the next steps leading to the distribution of funds. Award letters are anticipated to be mailed in the first part of February also. Each notice of award amount will be accompanied by a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the awarded agency and MDOT.

On Tuesday January 22nd, the Mississippi Transportation Commission awarded $213 million of the $250 million for local emergency infrastructure projects. These projects will repair or replace 200 county bridges severely restricting mobility, including 99 that are currently closed and another 91 that have posted weight restrictions. These projects were selected from a pool of applications totaling 690 applications. The total financial request of the 690 applications almost totaled $1 billion.
