On Monday, February 3, the Mississippi Legislature passed a joint resolution to move legislative deadlines up by 7 days. To maximum our grassroots efforts, MS Association of Supervisors (MAS) moved up our Regional Capitol Visits. These visits are a great opportunity to strengthen our grassroot efforts and for county supervisors to speak to their legislator about county needs.
The deadline to submit an application for the MAS County Employee Scholarship Program is quickly approaching. The application must be received by February 1, 2020 at the MAS office (793 North President Street, Jackson, MS 39202.
The Regional Capitol Visit dates for the 2020 Legislative session have been set.
These visits are a great opportunity to strengthen our grassroot efforts and for county supervisors to speak to their legislator about county needs.
During the Capitol Visits, there will be a short business meeting at the MAS office during which elections for MAS Board of Directors, Nominating and Legislative Committees will be conducted.
Save the Date! The MAS 91st Annual Convention is scheduled for Monday, June 15 - Thursday, June 18, 2020 in Biloxi, MS. Meetings will be held at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center. Registration forms will be on our website at a later date.
The MAS Institute for Excellence in County Government (“Institute”) is a voluntary education program offered to all county supervisors. Supervisors may complete the Core Program within one four-year term. MAS will hold a graduation ceremony for all supervisors completing the Core Program at each Annual Convention during the Thursday morning Honors Ceremony.
Instruction credits (CEUs) may be earned by attending educational sessions at all MAS conferences and regional meetings. Other courses may be offered periodically throughout the year.
The Mississippi Association of Supervisors (MAS) will hold its 2020 Mid-Winter Legislative Conference on January 7-9, 2020 at the Hilton Hotel in Jackson.
Items to be discussed generally include:
- General session topics of importance to all county officials
- Discussion of MAS legislative goals for the 2020 Regular Legislative Session
- Tour and group photo at the State Capitol
- MAS committee meetings
- Legislative Appreciation Reception
