MAS 2023 New Term Orientation

The Mississippi Association of Supervisors (MAS) is delighted to extend a warm invitation to all county officials, both newly elected and returning officials to attend MAS’ 2023 New Term Orientation (“NTO”). The purpose of this Meeting is to provide newly elected and returning county officials with vital information prior to being sworn into office so mark your calendars for December 6 and 7, 2023. The meeting will be hosted at the Sheraton Refuge Hotel and Conference Center located at 2200 Refuge Blvd, Flowood, MS 39232 (Rankin County).

We strongly encourage all county officials, whether newly elected or re-elected to attend this informative and engaging Meeting. It will be a valuable opportunity to meet, greet, and learn from other county officials. By attending the educational sessions, Supervisors will earn credits towards the voluntary Supervisor’s education program – MAS’ Institute for Excellence in County Government (“Institute”). We will be implanting phase 2 the “Institute”; Supervisors who completed phase 1 will begin earning credits towards phase 2 of the “Institute”. Returning Supervisors will continue to earn credits towards phase 1 of the program.

County Registration Now Open:

County registration forms are now available on the MAS website! Registration cost includes one compd attendee pass. Member rates are available for County Supervisors (Active Members), Supervisor-Elect and Associate Members only. If you are a county employee, you cannot register as a spouse/guest.

Pre-registering an Undecided County Role

If you need to pre-register someone from your county for position(s) that are still undecided due to forthcoming elections, you may proceed by registering that county role or title by using placeholders such as 'Supervisor District 1,' 'Supervisor District 2,' 'Chancery Clerk," etc. Once the election outcomes are confirmed, please send us the official names.

Supervisor-Elect:

Miss. Code Ann. §19-3-41(6) authorizes counties to pay travel expenses for newly elected county supervisors to attend this type training session:

“The board of supervisors of any county, in its discretion, may expend funds to provide for training and education of newly elected or appointed county officials before the beginning of the term of office or employment of such officials. Any expenses incurred for such purposes may be allowed only upon prior approval of the board of supervisors. Any payments or reimbursements made under the provisions of this subsection may be paid only after presentation to and approval by the board of supervisors.”

MAS Room Blocks:

Hotel room blocks and registration for MAS 2023 New Term Orientation will open on Monday, October 16 at 10:30 am! But no need to rush, the Sheraton won't start accepting reservations until 10:30am Monday. 

Booking Tip: Don't wait in line to make your reservation at the Sheraton Hotel– you can do it online! A special booking link will be released on Monday, October 16th at 10:25am - sent via text, email, and the MAS website. Just remember, the Sheraton's system only lets you book one reservation at a time.
