RESOLUTION OF THE  ___________________ COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE

WHEREAS the __________________ County Board of Supervisors strives to enhance the quality of life of its residents, both personally and economically, and

WHEREAS high-speed internet service has become a necessary component to participating in the modern economy, healthcare and education, but this service is unavailable or of an inadequate quality for many residents, and

WHEREAS residents of ____________________ County are members of certain Electric Cooperative of Mississippi (“ECMs”), having an ownership interest in the business of the association, and

WHEREAS Mississippi’s ECMs expressed a desire to serve high-speed internet service to their members, but Mississippi law currently restricts ECMs to providing electric service alone, and

WHEREAS Legislation is to be introduced in the 2019 Legislative Session that will allow ECMs to bring high-speed internet service to members, now therefore be it

RESOLVED that the ____________________ County Board of Supervisors fully supports the ECMs’ efforts to serve their customers with high-speed internet; and be it further

RESOLVED that the _________________, County Board of Supervisors urges the Mississippi Legislature to pass legislation which will allow ECMs to provide high-speed internet service to their members.
